Welcome to PreachingTodayBlog. My desire is that here you can join with a community of those who are committed to faithfully proclaiming God's Word in all its fullness to the church and the world. This space is for those who love this calling and tremble at this calling and who earnestly want to improve by joining in conversation with others who can be mentors, peers, friends.
Here many who serve the Word will tell their stories, discuss their journeys, and raise their questions. We will suggest sermon content and illustrations. We will ask your opinions.
I am excited about launching PreachingTodayBlog because blogs offer a unique form of communication and community that can benefit pastor/teachers in ways that complement PreachingToday.com and Preaching Today Audio.
The focus of PreachingTodayBlog will not be ministry in general but preaching/teaching in particular. In this venue Preaching Today can be more casual, immediate, conversational, and personal. That will be fun, and we expect, more conducive to linking us together in this high calling.

One of the distinctives of PreachingTodayBlog will be the blogging of Steve Mathewson, who is planning to average two posts a week. Steve is one of most skilled teachers of the Word you will ever hear. He earned his doctor of ministry in preaching under Haddon Robinson at Gordon Conwell. He has been preaching in the local church for more than two decades, most of them in Montana but now in suburban Chicago in proximity to Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, where he is an adjunct professor in preaching (talk about intimidating; D. A. Carson attends his church!). Yet, for all his expertise, when you hear Steve preach, he is completely accessible; he connects; he speaks the language of the person in the pew. And you'll find he speaks the language of the preacher in his blog. Steve's specialty, by the way, is preaching Old Testament stories (see his book, which won a preaching book of the year award: The Art of Preaching Old Testament Narrative.
I, too, will be blogging. Check out our editorial advisors in the left nav bar, who also will be contributing to the blog on occasion both in posts and comments.
As we develop a sense of the personality of PreachingTodayBlog, I hope you will suggest how we can do this better.

This is the first time I am participating in something like this but am very interested in your idea.I have been a "lay" preacher for 40+years.
To the young preachers out there who are just starting off I would advise you to get the "bible" of preaching and make a through study of it viz. "The Preacher and Preaching" by Alfred P. Gibbs. Good Luck and God Bless your new venture. Raymond Ferreira, DURBAN SOUTH AFRICA.

Welcome to the Blogosphere Brian an Steve! Well, I say welcome, but I know that Brian has been blogging for some time now, and podcasting as well.
It's great to see PreachingToday.com enter into this part of the Web, though. I hope it's as fruitful for you as listening to PT has been for me.

I have been Preaching for over 60 years and I am still very active as an associate Bible teacher for a radio ministry. I have made it a practice to be retrained in homiletics every 5-7 years. My challenge now is preparing eight radio messages on a topic. Each message is eleven minutes.
So thank you for all the help that is available today for preachers.

I want to have video illistrations in my preaching. I have just bought the book "Movie based illustrations for preaching & teaching."I have regestered on line with Preaching Today, how do I view movie illustrations? Nothing is said in the book or on line as to what to do. I gather I have to go to Faithworks.com to retrieve the videos but they don't seem to have any I have found in Preaching Today. What do I need to do?
