What to look for in 2009

For some, new technologies are toys you just can't wait to play with. For others, new "gadgets" and "doohickeys" are confounding and, you might say, unnecessary. Others adamantly oppose technological advances (and you luddites know who you are). But for all of us, new inventions are intriguing.

Pastors tend to be especially interested in new technologies - especially if the new technology can be used for ministry. If it presents new possibilities for sharing the gospel or connecting with one's congregation, or a quicker way of accomplishing a task, then it's something worth knowing about.

Dave Clark is the pastor for National Community Church's Georgetown Campus in Washington, DC. He also serves as the Media Pastor for NCC, which means he's the in-house, technology guru for one of the most innovative churches in America. In what is becoming a tradition on Preaching Today's FaithVisuals, Dave recently shared his technology forecast for the coming year. Last year he predicted that, among other things, 2008 would bring an increased interest in social networking, online video, and High-Definition video. While such predictions might sound like no-brainers now, these expanding technologies were not nearly as pervasive when he wrote the article.

Dave's predictions for 2009 are even more ministry-minded. Whether you're a tech-lover, a leery luddite, or fall somewhere in between, I predict that you'll be interested in what he has to say in his Church Media Forecast for 2009.

Tyler Charles is assistant editor of Preaching Today's FaithVisuals.
