A look at what people are watching, reading, listening to, and learning about…

Top Five Movies
1. Knowing (PG-13)
2. I Love You, Man (R)
3. Duplicity (PG-13)
4. Race to Witch Mountain (PG)
5. Watchmen (R)

Notables: Knowing sort of came out of nowhere, didn't it? I figured the weekend was going to belong to I Love You, Man. Its success might present a great opportunity because according to the review at CT Movies, the Nicolas Cage thriller is "a moving, suspenseful, thought-provoking thriller that raises surprisingly spiritual questions." Count Roger Ebert as a raving fan, too. In fact, it seems he can't stop writing about the film's spiritual themes. I've not seen the film, but I do wonder if folks are drawn to it because of the awful uncertainty of the times.

But then again, maybe we still just want to laugh. Hence I Love You, Man coming in a respectable second. The folks at CT Movies reviewed it, saying it's a "funny, touching 'bromantic' comedy." An additional entry about the film on the CT Movies blog says it's an improvement on the many guy and chick flicks we've been getting as of late. Now, before you run out and see it, keep in mind that it's rated R. I don't want anyone yelling at me?

As for the rest, the only other newbie is the Julia Roberts vehicle - yes, Julia Roberts is back - Duplicity. I don't know much about this one, but here's a review in case you care.

Top Five Books (according to USA Today research)
1. Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer
2. New Moon, by Stephenie Meyer
3. Eclipse, by Stephenie Meyer
4. Twilight: Director's Notebook, by Catherine Hardwicke
5. Breaking Dawn, by Stephenie Meyer

Notables: Well, the film adaptation of Twilight was released on DVD this week. According to this article, it broke all kinds of sales records. I would like to point out that the article broke a record of its own: "most lame puns crammed into one title." Anyway, the DVD paved the way for this list to return to its boring past. We had been enjoying a wonderful little vacation from Meyer. The vacation is over. This might be yet another opportunity for you to cover something about this if you haven't already. Check out this post - especially the comments section - for ideas. And you might even want to check out last week's post for a quick thought I offered concerning what all of this tells about the way we currently view romantic relationships.

Top Five Albums
1. All I Ever Wanted, Kelly Clarkson
2. No Line on the Horizon, U2
3. Twilight (soundtrack), Various Artists
4. Love vs. Money, The-Dream
. The Fame, Lady GaGa

Notables: We've seen all of these albums before. Notice that the DVD release of Twilight even gave a bump to the movie's soundtrack. As for the rest, there's not much to talk about. Well, unless you want to talk about my having not yet written up my thoughts about the new U2 album. As you wait, I would point you in the direction of this article by Cathleen Falsani. Falsani says No Line is a full-out gospel album (which, according to a quote by Bono, is what they were generally going for).

Top Singles
1. "Right Round," Flo Rida
2. "Poker Face," Lady GaGa
3. "Kiss Me Thru the Phone," Soulja Boy Tell 'em (featuring Sammie)
4. "Dead and Gone," T. I. (featuring Justin Timberlake)
5. "Gives You Hell," The All-American Rejects

Notables: This list is boring - much like last week's. I will only say that I continue to be grossed/creeped out by the title of Soulja Boy's song.

Top Five Web Searches (according to Google Trends)
*Exercise caution when searching; some topics may be inappropriate.
1. international people's democratic uhuru movement
2. larry glick
3. morgellons disease
4. sonido bleach
5. irson kudikova

Notables: You can learn more about the International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement by going to their website. The group is in the news because of a statement they released about the shootings in Oakland.

Larry Glick was a famous radio personality in Boston. He recently passed away.

I have no idea why everyone is concerned about Morgellons disease this morning. Maybe it was on last night's episode of Grey's Anatomy or ER?

Sonido Bleach? No clue what this is.

And it appears that actor Mickey Rourke's comeback will include a happily-ever-after marriage to Russian ex-boxer Irson Kudikova.
