Links to places where the gospel meets culture

Another trip through cyberspace, another set of links to material that has some real potential for illustrative purposes?

Like you, we've been praying for the family of Fred Winters, the pastor of First Baptist Church in Maryville, Illinois, who was shot and killed during a Sunday service on March 8, 2009. His wife, Cindy Winters, recently did an interview for CBS's Early Show. Click here to read/watch a powerful story of forgiveness and hope that seems about as Easter as it gets.

Speaking of Easter, I don't really care about the actual article I'm about to point to. In fact, I've not even read it, because as a nonmember, I can't access it. But I can tell you what I do care about, and that's the article's title: Resurrection on Wall Street. It just made me wonder which resurrection we care about more these days. Pretty important question, seeing as one without the other is still bankrupt.

The Pope recently made a controversial move to end the excommunication of a Holocaust-denying priest. Well, in later admitting his mistake, the Pope explained that he should have made better use of the Internet in his decision process.

His love for Google isn't the only reason the Pope is in the headlines. He's currently in Africa arguing that recent efforts to distribute condoms in the country won't fix the AIDS crisis. In fact, he says it will make it worse.

You already know this about the audience you preach to each week, but here are some statistics so that you can know you are right.

The economic crisis is so bad that it's not just hitting Wall Street and Main Street; it's hitting Sesame Street. Hard.

And here's one more story related to the economy: a church in recession-ravaged Michigan gave $100 bills to congregants to invest the money in kingdom-centered projects. One $100 investment raised more than $12,000 for a six-year-old with brain cancer.

For you archeology/history buffs out there - as well as you apologetics buffs - did you hear about the latest controversy involving the Dead Sea Scrolls?

According to research done through international polling, Denmark and Sweden are among the least religious nations in the world. Well, guess what? They also happen to rank as one of the top nations concerning life expectancy, child welfare, literacy, schooling, economic equality, standard of living, and competitiveness. I can pretty much guarantee that this article will be unnerving for most of you.

Have you been keeping up on the whole mess concerning singer Rihanna and her rapper-boyfriend Chris Brown? I posted some thoughts about it yesterday here on the blog. I would love to hear your thoughts, too.

And did you hear about the spider that performed a miracle? And did you hear that the guy the spider performed a miracle on was arrested just a short while later?
