A look at what people are watching, reading, listening to, and learning about…

Top Five Movies (according to box office returns)
1. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (PG)
2. Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (PG)
3. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (PG-13)
4. Brüno (R)
5. The Proposal (PG-13)

Notables: As expected, Harry Potter ruled the box office. I've never read a word of the series, and I've never watched any of the films. But my lack of reading and watching is not born out of some type of evangelical conviction (which might disappoint some of you). I'm just not at all drawn to the books or the movies. At all. I know; I'm weird. Still, I know a lot of you are wondering about all the Potter mania. So I'll once again post some (hopefully) helpful links:

Here's a review of the newest Potter film by the folks at CT Movies.

The folks at the new Her.meneutics blog (a CT blog for women) are examining Harry Potter and the Vampire Battle.

Josh Moody asks "What Would Jonathan Edwards Say to Harry Potter?"

Connie Neal looks for Christological connections in "Is Harry the Chosen One?" (And please know that by my linking to this, I'm not encouraging you to look under every Potter rock for Christological connections. I'm merely pointing out that some feel it's an intriguing thing to do.)

Here is a general editorial from the folks at CT: "Why We Like Harry Potter."

And in case you don't have all that much love for this stuff, here's Ted Olsen with a look at those who are "(A Bit Less) Positive About Potter."

Top Five Books (according to USA Today research)
1. Glenn Beck's Common Sense, by Glenn Beck
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, by J. K. Rowling
3. New Moon, by Stephenie Meyer
4. Eclipse, by Stephenie Meyer
5. My Sister's Keeper, by Jodi Picoult

Notables: If you stop by for the Weekly Intersections each Wednesday, you've already taken a look at what I'm about to share. If you only stop by for the roundup, though, be sure to check out Newsweek.com's feature story "Why the Ladies Love Vampires." From novels like Twilight to TV shows like True Blood, we're digging our fanged friends. Why? The love story/lust story aspect of the vampire myth has always caught the eye of folks, but one prof from Aurora University says it's more than that. "In times of economic contraction, fear of job loss, and war, the vampire myth really speaks to people," he says. "What's so bad about being powerful, almost immortal, always in control, and incredibly desirable?" This might help you connect some dots as to why Meyer is on this list every week.

Top Five Albums (according to Billboard)
1. Leave This Town, Daughtry
2. BLACKsummers' Night, Maxwell
3. Hannah Montana 3, Soundtrack
4. NOW 31, Various Artists
5. The E.N.D., The Black Eyed Peas

Notables: Not much to talk about here. Chris Daughtry is a third-place contestant from a past season of American Idol who has done much, much, much better than the two folks who finished ahead of him. Google his name with the word "faith" or "Christianity," and you'll find a lot of folks figuring out where he lands on God and all things related. I'll leave that up to you to chase anything down (stories, lyrics, etc). I'm not all that keen on conjecture about these things.

Top Singles (according to Billboard)
1. "I Gotta Feeling," The Black Eyed Peas
2. "Best I Ever Had," Drake
3. "You Belong with Me," Taylor Swift
4. "Knock You Down," Keri Hilson (featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo)
5. "Fire Burning," Sean Kingston

Notables: I guess I could link to the lyrics of yet another love-torn song by Taylor Swift, but do I really need to do that? You've heard it all before. It's a teenage singer caught up in the achy-breaky thought that she will never, ever be this in love with someone again. Ever. Taylor, I was a teenager once. I thought the same thing about a girl or two (maybe five). And I've gotta say - I'm really glad I didn't write a song about it.

Top Five Web Searches (based on the Google Trends report for Thursday)
*Exercise caution when searching; some topics may be inappropriate.
1. mark buehrle
2. perfect game
3. mark buehrle perfect game
4. perfect games in mlb history
5. dewayne wise

Notables: Well, every single item has to do with White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle. Yesterday afternoon, he pitched a perfect game (27 up, 27 down - no one on the opposing team touches a base).

As for Dewayne Wise, Buehrle should probably buy him a really nice gift. The center fielder saved the picher's perfect game in the ninth inning with a spectacular catch.
